Voters Support Electric Companies Opting Out of the Normalization Rule

Poll shows bi-partisan support for policies that encourage the growth of clean energy

Washington, DC – New polling by Morning Consult, on behalf of Clean Energy Means Jobs, not only shows bipartisan support for clean energy tax incentives, but most voters support electric companies being able to opt out of the normalization rule for energy storage and transmission projects. Today’s lack of energy storage limits our country’s ability to deploy more renewable energy sources – limiting jobs, economic growth, and stalling progress on lowering emissions. Allowing regulated electric companies to opt out of the normalization rule will help unleash investment in the resources need to grow clean energy, create jobs, and reach emissions reduction goals.

Top results from nearly 2,000 voters show:

·          More than half of voters (56%) feel developing alternative sources, such as wind, solar, and green hydrogen technology should be a more important priority for addressing America’s energy supply than expanding the exploration and production of oil, coal, and natural gas.

·          Two-thirds of voters have a favorable impression of clean energy tax incentives, including a bipartisan majority of Democrats (78%), independents (64%), and Republicans (53%).

·          Most voters support (43%) electric companies being able to opt out of the normalization rule for energy storage and transmission projects while a quarter oppose and 31% are undecided.

·          More than half of voters feel that offering tax incentives for companies to invest in solar, wind, and energy storage projects will have a positive impact on the climate, economic growth, job creation and wages.

“This poll makes clear that American voters on both sides of the aisle value the role that clean energy will play in creating good-paying jobs, growing our economy, and making a cleaner tomorrow for future generations,” said Katie Wright, spokesperson for Clean Energy Means Jobs. “With one simple fix to the antiquated tax code, Congress has the opportunity to accelerate the buildout of the clean energy and give Americans the clean energy future they want.”
